UKClimbing and UKHillwalking are proud to announce the shortlist for this year's Marmot Photography Awards, plus a major update to our highly prized Photo of the Week.
This year the competition is stronger than ever before, with a blend of professionals battling it out against keen amateurs. Previous category/overall winners such Hamish Frost, James Rushforth, Jonathan Bean, Al Todd, Jethro Kiernan, and 'wee jamie' are back, but Ben Tibbetts is conspiculous by his absence - most likely because of the publication of his forthcoming book. Still, as one familiar name exits the stage a whole host of new ones enter, with first time submissions from John Bunney, Tom Bunn, Mikey Cleverdon, Simon Rawlinson, Marc Langley, Nadir Khan, Myfyr Tomos, and Adam Archibald (just to name a few, there's a lot more!).
This round of the Photography Awards works through an automatic selection for the top five photographs within each category, based around voting throughout 2018. Each of these has been uploaded into a separate 'Competition' category, which wipes the slate clean of their existing votes, leaving the choice of who wins each of the category awards entirely up to you. The Overall prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be judged by Tim Glasby and collated into a high resolution Digital Feature.
Voting closes at midnight on Friday 15th February, with the final results - and brilliant prizes from Marmot - being announced a few weeks later.
How to Vote
To vote simply click through the range of images, then follow the instructions below. You can vote for as many photos as you like, but there is a limit to one vote per photograph. Alternatively, click here to visit the Competition Gallery in its entirety.
In addition to the category awards we also have three overall winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd), which will be selected by professional photographer Tim Glasby. Tim has worked closely with Marmot for many years, with images of all their key athletes to his name - Steve McClure, Lucy Creamer, Neil Mawson, Jack Geldard, and Leah Crane - to name a few. Alongside his choices he will be including a paragraph on why he has made each selection, just to provide a bit of background on his thinking.
Updates to the Photo of the Week
We never cease to be impressed by the quality of the images that feature within our Top 10, which made it all the more of a shame when cramming them all onto a single page with only the thumbnails to view. As a result we've spread them out, enlarged the images, and created a much easier method to scroll through (either using the arrow keys or by clicking across).
About Tim:
Tim has travelled the world on assignment for many of the best clients in the industry, including editorial work for The Times, The IOD, GQ and National Geographic Adventure, and for commercial clients such as Red Bull, Adidas Eyewear, Marmot, Vans and Edelmans Advertising. As an adventurer and photojournalist, Tim has photographed a wide array of assignments; including trekking in the Himalaya, rock climbing throughout Europe, ice Climbing in North America, paragliding in Corsica, back packing in the Scottish Highlands and mountain-biking in France.

Link to the competitions category page isn't working in the article. Just going to a 'Category not found' page. This is the URL https://www.ukclimbing.com/photos/?category=5

There's a couple of shots that won;t allow me to click through and vote - the Sport Climbing ones of Ron and Gwen in particular.
Apologies, that should now be sorted. I omitted to adjust the somewhat critical status from 'Hidden' to 'Public'. It's things like this that make me realise I should stick to selling advertising...
A stunning set of images - great work,
Chris
Very surprised not to find that 'Fortress of Ice' photo in the shortlist, I thought that was one of the best photos I've ever seen on this site.
