GB Climbing's Toby Roberts has qualified in first place for this afternoon's final at the IFSC European Qualifier event in Laval, France, where he will have the opportunity to earn an Olympic quota place for Paris 2024. Just one ticket will be awarded to the winner of the final round.
Toby qualified for the semi-final in second place behind Adam Ondra (CZE) and then dominated the semis, recording the highest scores in both the Boulder and Lead rounds. He is currently ranked above Ondra and reigning Olympic champion Alberto Ginés-López (ESP) ahead of the final round.
The 18-year-old from Surrey won his first IFSC World Cups in Boulder and Lead this year, becoming the first British athlete to win a gold medal in both disciplines.
Toby narrowly missed out on an Olympic quota place at the IFSC World Championships in Bern, Switzerland this August, finishing fifth and just outside of the Olympic-qualifying podium places.
GB Climbing's Jack MacDougall and Erin NcNeice finished 17th and 18th respectively after reaching the semi-finals.
The women's final is currently underway. Watch live on YouTube.
