Monte Cauriòl (2494) is an impressive pyramid of porphyry overlooking a green valley with views to the wider Dolomites. The climbs have a decisively alpine feel, as they never get any sun and can suffer from loose rock and seepage. Nonetheless, the passages on solid porphyry and beautiful setting make this well worth a visit. There are only a few climbs here, with a lot of potential for new routes.
Drive up the dirt road to Rifugio Cauriòl (1600m). From there, follow the path to Passo Sadole, and branch left when there are signs to Cauriòl. When on the scree below the north face, leave the path and go directly to the climbs. Circa 2hr, descent via the Via austriaca.
