"...Bouldering at Bloomingdales..."
A truly great urban venue, with great bouldering and some short routes on "Roxbury puddingstone" conglomerate. Great, fingery climbing on pockets, pebbles and edges.
The highlight is possibly "The Alcove" area, which is home to some steep and powerful problems with countless eliminates.
For the alcove area, leave route 9 at the Chestnut Hill Mall exit and park in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Centrer car park, just North of route 9. Take the obvious path up into the woods and take the first fork off left to reach the alcove. If you follow the path and ignore the fork off to the alcove you'll reach some slabby walls with great crack-lines, but you'll be entering soloing terrain rather than bouldering - unless you bring a rope.
There are over 10 different crags tucked away in the woods. Seek and ye shall find, or alternatively - buy the Wolverine Publishing "New England Bouldering" guidebook.
If you find yourself in Boston on business or on holiday then check this place out - you'll be impressed.
