Close to Oviedo, this is a very popular easy-access crag that comprises two distinctly different, yet complementary, buttresses. Sector Antiguo has a spread of grades with the majority of routes from the mid 6s to mid 7s. Never too long, what the routes lack in length they make up for in the nature of the climbing; the slightly overhanging, crimpy walls always seem to feel hard for the grade! The popularity of the crag also means that some routes are a bit polished and that contributes to the feeling of difficulty.
At Nuevo the routes are genuinely difficult and this very steep venue has a bunch of overhanging and very overhanging (and pretty polished) power stamina testpieces - including the world’s steepest warm up.
Here the rock is blockier in the central section with bigger flat holds between small crimps and has very steep tufa climbs in the wings. Never in the sun, it can be a great venue for a morning session but, like Antiguo, being close to the river it can be quite humid by the evening in the summer months.
Bolts and belays are excellent at both venues.
