Wonderful place to climb, though ideally you do need a car to access it. The crag and village sit in a small bowl, surrounded by glaciers, meadows, chalets and mountains - very typically Swiss!
Most of the routes are about 20-30m high, although there are some slightly longer 2-pitch routes at the right-hand sector. The rock is good, although a little polished on the left hand area (F3-F5). It consists of slabs on the left hand side, through to overhanging on the right, with everything else in between. Barme sits at about 1500m asl, so can be cooler when hot in the valley.
The sector just right of the middle has a bird ban in place from May to end of July.
This is a lovely venue for families and those wanting easy routes. Even the modest-looking routes at the extreme left of the crag give enjoyable climbs. There seems to be a bus service up to the crag, presumably starting in Champery. Shady all afternoon. Rog Wilko - 30/Jul/18 |
