The distinctive west face of Sas dla Crusc dominates the skyline of the Val Badia. The cliff is one of the best examples of the enrosadira phenomena found in the Dolomites, where the setting sun causes a lovely pink glow. Subsequently the west face and the beautiful chapel at its base are a familiar sight on many postcards.
From a climbers' perspective, Sas dla Crusc offers several outstanding steep trad routes. In particular Messner's Grande Muro is one of the best climbs in the area and is highly recommended. It does have an arduous approach but this is more than compensated for by the quality of the climbing and uncomplicated descent.
The face is reached from the village of San Leonardo (Badia Abtei) which is located in the Alta Badia just north of La Villa.
