The Castles are an extensive but largely discontinous array of gullies and pinnacles at the head of the Annalong Valley which offer a smattering of decent routes. On Commedagh's eastern slope there is also a small buttress facing Eagle Rocks on which one worthwhile route is recorded, while the pots of Legawherry and Pulgarve offer easy winter gully routes.
From the car park in Newcastle, ascend to the col between Slieve Donard and Commedagh, then follow the path contouring around onto the Brandy Pad (1.5 hours).
