A very prominent column in the Lower Merced River Canyon, home to one of the best Yosemite Valley free-climbs (The Regular North Face of the Rostrum). There are a number of other good crack climbs and variations to that route.
The Rostrum is typically closed for Peregrine nesting in early Spring and re-opens sometime in the summer. In recent years the closures have been lifted early if the birds aren't nesting. Check with the climbing rangers before climbing any of the routes in this area.
