Hi everyone,
im hoping you can offer some advice on climbing in Cornwall. I am intending to drill and secure a bolt and anchor into the granite cliffs on the Lizard so I can safely rappel/climb 40-50ft down to the water. I am unsure if the rock has enough integrity to hold a bolt and anchor with fracturing. If you have climbed in the area I’d love to hear from you.
Is this a troll? The "anonymous" poster is a bit concerning.
However, a serious answer. The rock at the Lizard is not granite. You don't say which bit of the Lizard you are talking about but last year I had a worrying moment when a handhold fractured on Songs from a Gentle Man at Pen Olver. So I would be very careful.
I'm not a local or a Lizard regular so you may get better advice. But I would imagine that the best advice might be a reminder that the West Cornwall sea cliffs are a bolt-free zone (or have I missed some changes since the controversies of a few years ago).
