Agkathes 1511m is the highest point in a complex mountain area between the Lefka Ori to the west and Kedros to the east.
The ninth most prominent peak on Crete (690m prominence).
Although some maps show a path traversing the mountain, on the ground way markers are mainly absent and the route finding is difficult. Usually approached from the high village of Kalikratis to the south, parking possible here.
A long circuit across the high plateau may be made to include the top Soros 1159m which is a superb viewpoint (not to be confused with another Soros, NW of Kedros).
