Steep overhangs is what Loup Scar is all about and there are plenty of them! Powerful and dynamic moves interspersed with short vertical walls typifies the style of climbing which is most suited to those with massive arms and a long reach. The rock is generally excellent and the gear is good, although a small rack of wires will be necessary on some of the routes. Some rebolting has been done but more is needed to make it a "fully-equipped" sport crag.
The crag should only be approached from the village of Burnsall which can be reached from Threshfield or Bolton Abbey. You can often park for free by the road in the village but, if this is full, you will need to pay at the car park.
Low-water approach - Follow the river-side path to the right of the Red Lion for 500m until the crag can be seen on the other side of the river. A few hairy leaps (degree of hairyness depends on level of river) lead to the beach on the other side.
Also possible to park above and drop in.
crossing the river opposite the scar is a doddle, when the river is low. But when it is high or choppy it is near impossible without a kayak asherh - 03/Nov/08 |
