Coastal cragging overlooking Robin hood's bay. Rock varies massively across the crag, from exceptional on parts of the 'Walrus Buttress' and the 'Cow of the Sea recess', to death-on-a-stick sand-pulling over on the right-hand side and the tottering central buttress.
Development is very much still on-going, with many of the sheltered lines harbouring a fair few tufts of grass. There are still classics up for grabs and the few that have been climbed have only seen a hand-full of repeats so far. Everyone enjoys 'the brow' though, but pick a calmish day if you can.
The Quarry floor offers two of the largest boulders in the North Yorkshire Moors which, along with satellite boulders, can provide endless circuits and fun at all grades.
Small laybay at the bottom enough for 4-5 Cars. Walk along the No Vehicles track for a few metres until an obvious cleared track on the left, take the right branch off this over trimmed branches through a hidden track at the end, thus avoiding the carnivorous gorse.
AKA Stoupe Brow.

A lot of potential here. The easier lines are numerous and of an unknown quality and quantity. The number of potential hard routes here is vast, and unlikely to be met by the quantity of local climbers that would be needed for the crag to be developed quickly. It'll be worked out one day though and we'll see how accurate my grade estimates were... Franco Cookson - 18/Feb/11 |
