Desperate not to let the Christmas period interrupt your climbing plans? For those of you who can escape the dinner table and resist festive overindulgence, try out this Christmas-themed UKC ticklist Dear Santa, created by UKC user Sparrowmonkey. The most popular (UK-only) climbs based on logbook ascents are listed below. How many have you done?
1. Christmas Crack (HS 4a) HS 4a (Stanage) 3 Stars
The most popular choice of all, with 4,217 ascents in the UKC logbooks...and more to come in the next few days, no doubt. Bring a jacket for the queue and your best Santa suit!
Rockfax Description
This long straight crack is a must; mild for the grade, but sustained. Climb a V-groove to the crack and follow it with pleasure. The final leaning corner is awkward and there is also an exposed alternative out left. The only route in the Peak where you will be queuing every 25th December come hail or shine! © Rockfax
2. Christmas Curry (S 4a) S 4a (Tremadog) 3 Stars
Spice up your Christmas with a multipitch route...
Rockfax Description
75m, 4 pitches. A much-ascended classic taking the easiest line up Plum Buttress. © Rockfax
3. Holly Groove (VS 4c) VS 4c (Froggatt)
Rockfax Description
12m.
The slippery twin cracks in the groove - the holly has long gone. Start up the left one, step into the right for a couple of steep moves, then finish up a wide easy chimney. © Rockfax
4. Creeping Jesus (HVS 5a) HVS 5a (Shepherd's Crag) 2 Stars
A Shepherd's crag classic, tough for the grade.
5. Gabriel (M) M (Stanage Plantation)
Short but sweet...
Rockfax Description
6m.
The central crack is as mild as they come. © Rockfax
Merry Christmas from the UKC Team!
