The Mountain Heritage Trust (MHT), is a non-profit charity established in 2000 to record and preserve Britain’s rich heritage in the fields of climbing, mountaineering and mountain culture hosting items from pioneers in techniques from the earliest days. Second to none in terms of breadth, Britain has a proud legacy in the Alps, the Himalaya and the other great mountain ranges as well as closer to home on British rock. Collections of historic items from Britain’s rich mountaineering heritage have been preserved and archived to create an innovative and exciting heritage offer for local, national, and international audiences. Sir Chris Bonington is one of our patrons and the British Mountaineering Council work with MHT as their ‘heritage’ arm.
The Trust puts on exhibitions, holds talks and events in partnership with other like-minded organisations interested in preservation of the stories of heritage in this field. The Trust is entering a new phase of development and we are seeking to strengthen the Board of Trustees with the appointment of additional people. The Trustees provide strategic direction and support to the activities of the Trust through their knowledge, experience and practical skills. There are four Trustees’ meetings per year, usually at the Blencathra Field Studies Centre, Threlkeld, Cumbria. (Trustees must attend three out of four meetings, one of which can be remotely via teleconference if required.)
We welcome interest from people with a range of skill sets and who are passionate about the heritage of British mountaineering and want to get involved with the exciting work of preserving our history, raising our profile and potentially helping with exhibitions and fundraising. While enthusiasm and passion are the most important attributes we are looking for if you have professional or voluntary experience of: fundraising; HR; IT; finance; marketing; graphic design and exhibitions and events, are all skills we would value.
Closing date for expressions of interest: Friday, 17th March 2023
If you feel you fit these requirements and want more information; description of the full role; details on how to submit an expression of interest, or discuss this position further, please email: enquiries@mountain-heritage.org and you will be sent further contact information.
