Rocktype Limestone
Altitude 580m a.s.l
Faces all
A series of buttresses of varying height (15-20m). The easier routes are slabby and the harder ones vertical to very overhanging on pocketed limestone. Sectors 1-4 get dappled sunlight through the trees.
Park at the walkers' car park (by the big walking map) at the entrance to Breitenstein. Please park only here as access depends on good manners! Walk a few paces back and follow the concrete road on the left (signpost to Steinberg) downhill for 500 metres until a sharp right-hand bend. Here go straight on, along the edge of the field (past the portaloo) and then into the wood. You will see sector 1 above you to the left. Head uphill on the path towards the right hand end of sector 1 and, if continuing to the other sectors, follow the footpath signposted with a blue stripe or follow the 'Steinberg Felsenweg' signpost. Sector 2 and 3 are together, sector 4 is a short walk downhill and left after sector 3, and to reach sector 5, go through the little canyon between sectors 2 and 3, then follow the track for about 100 metres and take a sharp left back uphill to the crag.
Locals are curently concerned about poor parking, badly controlled dogs and anti-social toilet habits. Please do your bit to keep this crag open!
