Trying to slow down rain runoff towards back of house. Pulled up some of slabs. Dug a pit and filled with small rocks/ rubble. My wife wants to use up piles of slate chippings reclaimed from garden to finish top of hole. I've been told pebbles allow infiltration better. Or wondered about bark. ( Couldn't install a full drain with pipes ). Thanks.

Not bark!

What type of soil do you have?

It's well away from house (about 12 ft)- there's a lot of slabs!. Dug it there to stop runoff partly from garage. (Installing gutters on garage and water butts also for this). It's clay- not good for infiltration but not a problem with fine/sandy soil mentioned in building regs..Thanks
