I've got 3 weeks booked off in September and the plan is to go somewhere with a good forecast in the van and have a proper relax. Range would be maybe an 8 hour drive of Calais (down to Chamonix area).

We spent last weekend in Eskdale which was great. Nice campsite, lots of grass to chill out on, pub within walking distance, varied walks and some swimming spots that we could do from the campsite.

We'll have a 9 month old and will still be dictated by nap times, energy levels (ours) etc.

So the requirements would be:

- Nice campsite (or free spots where it would be okay to chill outside the van). Pretty location (it's nice to see the mountains, river, lake etc).

- Things on the doorstep (swimming, varied 2-3 hour walks, maybe some bouldering/sport climbing)

- Cafe/shop/bar or something within walking distance.

- Possibility of nice weather in September

- UK or within 8 hours of Calais.

Some friends just got back from Annecy and had an amazing time whilst in a similar situation, but they were in a gite with a car which I guess gave them a lot more access to the town (and getting around easily) than if we were in a campsite further away.

If you can think of anywhere that would fit the bill then it would be great to hear and we can add it to our options of potential places.

Oh it needs to be dog friendly (hence drive rather than fly). It would be amazing to do some short hut to hut walks but the dog causes problems with that.

Similar boat to you, minus dog, annecy was great. Lots of bike trailers/seats etc to hire (for babies too). Family friendly.

cham has been ok too. We enjoyed northern Spain also. It’s obviously a long drive but if the cost of the ferries not prohibiting it brings beaches and mountains too. Loads of dogs on ferry.
