Hi - I will be trekking through the Tamang Heritage & Langtang Valley in April, and I believe the weather in Spring is great in Nepal.

Only problem is that I hate hiking in hiking pants. They are uncomfortable for me, which interferes with my hiking experience. I prefer leggings/tights, because they sit up high-waisted and I can squish in my top so that it does not come out ever, and I also like to place my hiking socks over my leggings/tights.

I usually wear base thermals and then layer over it with a second thermal leggings when I go snow shoeing, but I am unsure if this is suitable for trekking. Example here:

Does anyone have any advice on whether thermal leggings are sufficient, or if I would need something else?

I've tried this in the past, when I was a poor student - including double layering leggings (Ron Hill Trackster Flash, back in those days!).

The issue I've found with it is that it's a terrible idea when it's cold and very windy, as leggings have no wind resistance - you've probably found that yourself anyway.

Late April in Nepal can get quite warm, it's heading into summer, and you're not going very high.

But you might want to look at dedicated cold weather tights, such as:

https://montane.com/products/montane-womens-slipstream-trail-running-tights

There does exist actual insulated tights but seemingly only for men:

I've not tried them, but Mountain Equipment do a softshell legging. They read to be quite heavy fabric (I'm assuming aimed at UK conditions) - they may work for you, perhaps coupled with Power stretch underneath if you're expecting to be particularly cold?

My main concern in the mountains is wind rather than temperature, so they should solve that problem nicely compared to "normal" leggings.

There are plenty of cold weather tights for sale from Swix, craft, Nike etc
