Major Lakes mountain crag with many excellent routes in the higher grades 20-90m long. The steep North Buttress saw lots of action in summer 2003, with all routes cleaned and new routes added in the higher grades. The Lakes premier hard crag? Fast and Furious with the Flying Fissure Finish(E5), Bucket City(E6), Bucket Dynasty (E6), Fear and Fascination(E5), Vlad the Impaler(E7), Fear of Failure (E8), Fetish for Fear (E7), Dusk til Dawn (E7), Extol(E2-mean at this grade!), Asolo (E3), Westmorlands Route(MS), Hiraeth(E2), Dovedale Groove(E1). In winter it has some classic ice and mixed routes.
One and a quarter hour walk from the Brotherswater Inn (camping).
Yorkshire pudding cleaned as of 15/7/18, now a pretty good crag warm up, quite tough for 5c! Dancingbear - 16/Jul/18 |

As of 17/6/6 Extol was exceedingly dirty. We abbed from the top of P1 having seen the delights awaiting above. Most of the routes on the left of the crag would seem to be in a similar nick. Another once fine lakes crag reclaimed by the ming? Dave Kerr - 19/Jun/06 |

Climbed the fissure finish to Fast and Furious on Sunday (5th Aug 02). It is absolutely brilliant, worth ***. One of the best routes of its grade in Cumbria.
Caff also climbed Bucket City which is in good nick.
Chalk on Fear and Fascination.
Get up there. wils - 08/Aug/02 |
