A distinctive pillar of rock amongst a broken crag, in an idyllic valley, hosting enough good low-extreme routes to be worth a spring/summer visit. Good quality "Goldsborough" grit with a bit of lichen only affecting the easy finishes. Link E2 5b *, Kermit E1 5b ***, Another Masterpiece E2 5c **, and Brush Strokes E0 5a * all worthwhile.
Near Kinninvie, north of Barnard Castle. Access is uncertain but discreet climbing would not impinge on other land usage.
Visited 6th June 2013. Lovely setting, little breeze so no midges.
Rock needs a really good clean as covered in lichen. Gear seemed a bit sketchy. Only 10 mins from my house so will probably end up there again and will give it a clean. lissymanners - 07/Jun/13 |

Visited 23rd April 2009. Bone dry and crag in decent condition - rock quality good (nicely featured local grit) and lichen only affects the very easy finishes. Comments below from 2002 no longer apply. Led: Kermit, Brush Strokes, Link, and Another Masterpiece, all good steady leads. Well worth a detour off the A1 / A66. Fiend - 24/Apr/09 |

Visited Pallet Crag early Aug '08 and had a very enjoyable evening, lots of midges but some pleasing climbing around 5a - 6a, solid anchors at the top if you want to top rope. Short walk in and half a dozen nice climbs makes this spot worth a second visit in my opinion. ablackett - 20/Sep/08 |

Visited this crag a few years ago but met the local gamekeeper who objected to our presence. Despite him being pretty objectionable we remained polite and left. The crag is in the North East England guide with no mention of access problems. Not worthy of a second visit and certainly not worth the hassle. Better to travel to the excellent gritstone in N.Yorks or sandstone of Northumberland. Martin Peace - 16/Sep/02 |

A grim, filthy crag mostly hidden beneath a thick coat of lichen. Dubious access. Don\'t bother - go to Goldsborough Carr instead. jamiemoss - 03/May/02 |
