Alpkit is seeking a Clothing Design Assistant to join our dynamic team. This is your chance to grow, learn, and contribute to creating high-quality, sustainable outdoor apparel.

What You'll Do:

Collaborate & Support: Work closely with our clothing product team to bring together individual work-streams, ensuring the seamless development, production, and delivery of our products.

Work to company critical path deadlines to ensure samples arrive on time and produce detailed and accurate design and material specifications.

Tech Packs & Specifications: Prepare and maintain seasonally accurate tech pack documents for every product. This includes detailed design sketches, material part lists, measurement charts, key sewing instructions, care/content details, packaging info, and more.

Product Development: Critique proto and pre-production samples against tech pack specifications for fit, sewing quality, design accuracy, and functionality.

Cross-Functional Partnerships: Engage with our Head of Product, Buying, and Marketing teams to ensure the smooth execution of product development, from initial range briefs to staff training to final consumer communication.

Key Skills & Knowledge:

Organised & Detail-Oriented: You thrive on structure and precision, ensuring every detail is accounted for.

Tech-Savvy: Proficient in Word, Excel, Mac-based apps, and Adobe Illustrator. Experience with PDM or related tech pack systems is a plus.

Industry Insight: Understanding of the outdoor sports markets and trends, with a keen awareness of apparel and technical accessory manufacturing.

 Communication: Fluent in written and spoken English, able to convey technical information clearly and effectively.

Outdoor Enthusiast: A personal passion for outdoor sports and activities.

What You'll Learn:

A willing candidate could easily move in to garment tech, product development or production. If you an aspirant designer this would be a great grounding into the nuts and bolts of the technical garment industry.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of related industry experience or relevant project degree work
  • Technical training or factory experience in apparel/accessories product design/development
  • Active participation in outdoor sports (preferred)

Your day to day might include:

  • Lab dip requests, chasing, approvals
  • Fabric library / tech sheet / material impact maintenance
  • Shipping sample approvals
  • Chasing ex-factory dates
  • Booking QC inspections
  • Critical path maintenance
  • Tracker updates
  • Counter costings
  • Co-ordinating TOP sample delivery

Design (creative):

  • Product briefs
  • Graphic design (prints, branding)
  • Assisting applying colour palette to range
  • Packaging copy creation
  • Assisting Prototype reviewing

Development (technical/production):

  • PP approvals
  • Size set fitting
  • Packaging
  • Care Labels
  • Issuing prototype comments
  • In acting QA process
  • Branding application/ consistency – (adherence)
  • Trim sourcing & testing
  • Lead time monitoring
  • Following issues during production
  • Continuous improvement from returns data
  • Factory visits
  • Investigating QC issues
  • Safety/compliance issues
